Residence permit


IMPORTANT! No matter where you originate from, you have to visit the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (commonly known as “Immigration Office”) at least once during your stay in Hungary!

 

1. EEA/EU citizens: only once for getting the registration card

2. Non-EEA citizens (Israel, South Korea) and Third Country Nationals (Nigeria, Turkey, Iran etc.): application for residence permit and renewal

 

Basic rules:


 

  • Check the required documents and always bring your PASSPORT!

 

 

All international students have to register at the Immigration Office!!!

 

In cases where you need a visa to come to Hungary, you will need to apply for the residence permit, which will replace your visa. You will be able to travel back to your home country and travel within the Schengen area with a valid residence permit.

The following checklist includes all the necessary documents for students, who can not enter Hungary without a visa, that must be obtained before visiting the Immigration Office in Szeged. Please make sure that you have all of them:

 

  • Passport
  • Passport size photo
  • Certificate of your student status (issued by the Student Registration office)
  • Certificate of enrollment (issued by the Student Registration office)
  • Certificate of accommodation in the Student Hostel (signed by the director)
  • ’Accommodation reporting form’ for third country nationals” (with the signature of the owner(s) or the dormitory providing your accommodation)
