Opening a Bank account

Why do I need a bank account?

Scholarship holders must open a bank account as soon as possible to receive their stipend.

Self-payed students are also encouraged to open an account, especially if they want to work as a student later on.

Hungarian banks provide a comprehensive range of banking services, including account management, currency exchange, insurance etc.

For different currencies, it is necessary to open a separate account.

Which bank should I choose?

Students can choose from a wide range of banks such as OTP, MKB, ERSTE, Raiffeisen and K&H banks.

Usual costs of opening an account may include:

  • opening fee
  • bank card fee
  • account management services

In many cases, these costs may be waived as part of various account opening promotions, so it is worth checking with several banks to find out about the options and costs.

What documents will I need to bring?

  1. Passport
  2. Accommodation reporting form
  3. Residence permit
