STUDENT ID CARD “DIÁKIGAZOLVÁNY” APPLICATION

International students can apply for a Student ID Card (“DIÁKIGAZOVÁNY” in Hungarian) free of charge if they are a student of active status at any Hungarian higher education institution:

• Not compulsory, for external use only
• Entitles students to certain discounts (public transport, stores, restaurants, cinemas etc.)

Temporary Student ID certificate

In case of short term studies it is possible to apply for the Temporary Student ID certificate valid for 90 days.

Permanent Student ID Card

In case of longer stay (in excess of 1 year), students can apply for a permanent Student ID Card valid for a whole semester.

1. As for first step students have to apply for a NEK identifier form (National Unified Card Scheme) at any Government Office/ ’Kormányhivatal’

At the Government Office

Please pull a number at the Information desk by choosing ’Kormányablak ügyek’, ’Okmányügyek’ and then ’Diákigazolvány (NEK-regisztráció)’.

When you see your number and the window number on the display, you have to go to the particular window, where the officer will initiate the procedure. You will need to inform them about the aim of your visit (i.e. to obtain a ‘Student card/ Diákigazolvány’). They will take your ID documents (passport), personal data and the Active student status certificate (which can be requested at the Faculty’s Student Registration Office).

The officer will take a photo of you, after which you will have to sign a document – the sample signature you provide will be visible on your student card, for which reason we advise you to provide a genuine one. At the end of the procedure, you will be provided with an A4 size paper with your photo and date on it, which is called ‘NEK’ form.

Please note that during any administrative process in Hungary, administrators will also ask you for the following personal details:

• given and family name
• date of birth
• place of birth (country and town/city)
• mother’s maiden name (family name before marriage)
• nationality
• Hungarian address

IMPORTANT: the personal information (your name, your mother’s maiden name, your birth place) have to be exactly the same as in Neptun. Any difference can cause administration problem which could delay the issuing of your permanent Student ID Card.

Please be prepared with this information before you start the procedure. And for the faster and more efficient administration, please help the administrators by providing accurate information.

2. After receiving the NEK form, students have to visit the Students’ Service Office (HSZI) in Szeged with previous appointment booked via Modulo as follows:

To the *Administrative matter, please select Temporary student ID.

You will be notified by the Students’ Service Office, when the Student ID Card is issued. When it is ready, you just have to collect it there.
