My field of study is plant genetics and breeding.

I started my PhD in strawberry breeding for disease resistance after getting my agronomic engineering degree at the same institute.

In the frame of Erasmus+ project, I had a mobility opportunity to the University of Szeged in order to work on strawberry micro-propagation as part of my research at the faculty.

At the end of the internship, with the Moroccan delegation, we visited the University pilot farm where students keen their skills and implement their knowledge in practice in both plant and animal science, as well as food technology.

This year I was in Hungary in The University of Szeged. I participated in the Erasmus+ student exchange programme as part of a collaboration between my institution and the University of Szeged, Faculty of Agriculture.

My internship period lasted almost three months between May and July.

The subject was the use of drones in precision agriculture: potentials and limitations.

I was under the supervision of Dr. Balázs Duray who taught me a lot about the subject, especially the part concerning piloting and data processing. Mr. Duray was not only a pedagogical supervisor, he made a lot of effort to introduce us to the Hungarian culture. He was very generous and welcoming.

Internship summary

My name is Mariem Jlassi.

Jassli

I am a Ph.D. student at the Mateur Higher School of Agriculture in Bizerte, Tunisia, I have an engineering degree in animal and fodder production at the same school.

I was honored to be accepted for an internship opportunity in Hungary within the Erasmus program, (I would like to thank Dr. Edit Miko for the acceptance at the Agriculture Faculty at the University of Szeged).

The main research work was performed in the Department of Microbiology in the Faculty of Science and Informatics at the University of Szeged, under the supervision of Professor Csaba Vágvölgyi.

The internship topic is the identification of fertility genes in Hungarian stallions.

To perform my work, I collected blood samples (I thank Dr. Edit Miko and Dr. Szilard Pinnyey for providing me with the said samples).

Then, I started the DNA extraction (I thank all the crew members who worked at the laboratory of Microbiology in the Faculty of Science and Informatics, especially to Professor Csaba Vágvölgyi).

After the DNA purification, I sent the samples for sequencing and got back the results in a reasonable amount of time.

I was honored to get to know researchers in the department of Microbiology who accompanied me during this internship.

I wanted to contribute more to the work I’ve done but unfortunately, the amount of time allowed was not enough.

It took some time to gather the samples but I was able to get good results and I got a better experience in laboratory work and more importantly, I could make new acquaintances.

Apart from my research work in the lab, I had the opportunity to join the Tunisian and the Moroccan delegations on a mission to visit the cattle farm, the pilot farm and the cheese factory in Hódmezővásárhely and other sites in Szeged city.

Furthermore, I enjoyed visiting Budapest and its magnificent monuments such as Buda Castle, Heroes’ square, Margaret Island, the Parliament of Budapest, Saint Stephen’s Basilica, and many other touristic places.

Overall, I had an amazing experience that added value to my professional career. Finally, I would like to thank Mrs. Magdolna Gera and Dr. Peter Jani for all the support before, during and after the internship.

Abstract Internship - ACHEMRK Oussama

Hello, my name is ACHEMRK Oussama. I am 23 years old, I am from Morocco.

I am officially an agricultural engineer (plants protection) graduated from the National School of Agriculture in Meknes. I took part in the Erasmus+ project to follow my final work project in Hungary (University of Szeged).

Actually, it was an amazing experience that I highly recommend for young people to learn new stuff and meet new people from different countries and cultures!

My internship period lasted three months started from May. The subject of my final work was the identification of historical and new stem races in Hungary and resistance characterization of cultivars, under the supervision of Professor Melinda Tar, from the Gabonakutató research center.

She actually was a woman of a kind. She was all ears to my questions and follow my works step by step. (Besides being an amazing phytopathologist, she is also a mother (she cares a lot).)

I would like also to express my gratitude to my dear Professors Mr. AMIRI Said and LAHLALI Rachid, teachers and researchers at the Department of Protection of plants and the environment at the National School of Agriculture of Meknes, for their efforts, permanent availability and patience. As far as I am concerned, the University of Szeged allowed me to take part in different knowledge and opportunities.

Szeged is a wonderful city, where you can meet people from different countries and cultures which leads directly to make good friendships.

To be honest this experience will never be forgotten since it was amazing and full of beautiful memories.

The least I can say is: I made the greatest choice.

Internship report - Leila Ben FARHAT

The pace of life in Szeged is pleasant and was pretty good. Transportation is well organized. The bus network is also well developed in the country and allowed me to visit other Hungarian cities (e.g.: Budapest) at affordable prices.

farhat_2

During this period we had the opportunity to visit, the University of Szeged, Faculty of Engineering and their food Laboratory. Also, we accompanied the Tunisian delegate during their visit to the pilot farm located in Hódmezővásárhely.

All the research work was carried out within the laboratory attached to the Faculty of

Agriculture. The objective of this work was to compare the effects of A1-milk and A2-milk on human health. It showed mixed results.

Cow milk is consumed in many countries. However, its consumption can be associated with gastrointestinal disorders in humans. The genetic profile of β-casein is one of the factors responsible for these disorders and the A1 variant is a causal agent. The β-casein A1 leads to the formation of bioactive peptides, which trigger intestinal reactions. The same is not observed for the A2 allele. A2 milk is obtained from cows with the A2A2 genotype. The identification of breeds and selection of animals for A2 milk production is important for public health and animal production.

- Professional experience

This internship allowed me to acquire new skills, especially in team work, the use of new equipment... Moreover, I was able to meet new people and expand my network. I would add that it was really nice to work at the faculty because all the people I met were really welcoming and friendly.

I also had the opportunity to go to Romania to participate in a congress on sustainable development.

- Personal experience

From a personal point of view this internship allowed me to discover a new country. I went on several outings with the teachers of the faculty, whether it was from a pedagogical point of view such as the visit of a dairy farm or just cultural and relaxing in Mindszent. It is with great nostalgia that I will leave Hungary at the end of my internship. I would like to thank all the people who participated in making this experience unforgettable!
