A conference was organised with the title Responses to Global Challenges in Agriculture by the USZ Faculty of Agriculture.
"Every year, the Faculty presents the latest research results of our teacher and researcher colleagues, which is our tribute to the Hungarian Science Festival. This is a nationwide series of programs, of which the conference held at the Faculty of Agriculture is a part," summarized the essence of the program Peter JAKAB Ph.D., executive chairman of the conference.
He added that on this occasion, the lecturers, researchers and PhD students of the three institutes of the Faculty of Agriculture, - the Institute of Animal Science and Wildlife Management, the Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Institute of Plant Science and Environmental Protection - will be able to present their latest research, and outstanding faculty students who successfully applied for the New National Excellence Program with their research will present themselves among others.
An important goal is for the Faculty's employees and students to get to know the research work going on at the institution and to even get involved in each other's activities, but we also welcome lecturers, researchers or even students from partner institutions, as well as those practitioners who are interested in these research projects or topics - added the executive chairman of the conference.
In the long term, the goal is that companies and farmers can incorporate the research results into their practical activities.
The conference was hosted by Tamás MONOSTORI Ph.D., head of the Institute of Plant Science and Environmental Protection of the USZ Faculty of Agriculture, who was followed by lectures in two multidisciplinary sections. Szilárd CZÓBEL professor, university teacher, introduced his joint research with associate professor Péter JAKAB Ph.D., titled Storm clouds on the horizon - agriculture facing another serious challenge.
With the title of The effect of bio stimulator treatments on the development and yield of autumn barley, Melinda TAR Ph.D., Péter JAKAB Ph.D., university associate professor, and Györgyi CSONTOS Ph.D., college associate professor reported about their joint research.
This was followed by László BEIER, PhD student, assistant lecturer’s presentation entitled Drones and Games – revolution in the air.
Then, Dávid KÖTELES PhD student, assistant lecturer presented his work, entitled Comparison of different thermometric instruments and their potential applications in stress and non-contact production by testing parameters of intensive breeding pigs.
Violetta TÓTH, assistant lecturer, PhD student, presented her latest research results under the title "Investigation of factors influencing the exit from milk production in large-scale dairy farms”.
Krisztina GÉMES-MATUSEK, PhD student, assistant lecturer, gave a presentation entitled By-products as possible alternative feed sources.
After a short break, we got a glimpse into the research of Helga KOVÁCS, PhD student, assistant lecturer, entitled The development of tourism demand and supply in the districts of the Southern Great Plain region.
This was followed by the lecture of Ingrid Melinda GYALAI, PhD student, assistant lecturer entitled "Investigation of the internal elements of different hot pepper varieties".
Vineet SRIVASTAVA, PhD student, presented his work entitled Estimation of ammonia and nitrous oxide emissions from animal husbandry using the photoacoustic spectroscopy method.
Then Wissem BACCOURI PhD student, presented his research entitled “The effect of heat stress on the performance of dairy cows”.
George WANJALA, PhD student presented his research topic with the title; Use of OvineSNP50K to investigate the genetic diversity and climate change adaptability of indigenous sheep breeds from different climatic regions.
After him, Kata Sára LÁBAS presented her topic, entitled Exploring the link between culture and rural development in Hollókő.
Two excellent students of the Faculty who gained the ÚNKP scholarship also presented their research. Edina GÁLIK: Breeding technologies and treatments against the heat stress of dairy cattle
Zsófia SÖRÖS: Seasonal examination of the pollen stock of spontaneously settling honeybees in an agricultural landscape with unfavourable ecological conditions.
After a short lunch break, the following section was SWEETPOTATO RESEARCH SECTION which was also a project closing Conference. (EIP-AGRI, VP3-16.1.1-4.1.5-4.2.1-4.2.2-8.1.1-8.2.1-8.3.1-8.5.1-8.5.2-8.6.1-17 “Development of site- and cultivar-specific cultivation technologies as well as the production of pathogen-free propagating material of sweet potato”.)
Tamás MONOSTORI Ph.D., head of institute, college teacher reported “(Almost) all about sweet potatoes - experiences of an EIP-AGRI project”.
Adrienn SZARVAS Ph.D., senior lecturer, reported her research results on Achievements and experience in the development of sweet potato cultivation technology and production of propagating material.
Then, Ádám BORDÉ presented the research of his PhD thesis, entitled Study of the yield enhancing effect of the Bacillus licheniformis strain with outstanding biocontrol potential in the cultivation of sweet potato.
Two of our BSc students also presented their research projects: Attila KIRÁLY Effects of FloraHumus and soil bacteria on the yield of Ásotthalmi-12’ sweet potato
Botond BAZÁN: Effects of FloraHumus and Elice Vaccine on the yield and nutritional values of sweet potato
The closing topic of the conference was the “Introduction of the PhD research project: „The effect of plant growth regulators on the in vitro and in vivo shoot forming characteristics as well as on the abiotic stress tolerance of sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.]” presented by Gideon Adu DONYINA PhD student, assistant lecturer.
