This year's National Higher Education Scholarship was awarded at a management meeting. This time, two foreign students of the SZTE Faculty of Agriculture were honoured.
Aisha Adan JALDESA, who came to the Faculty of Agriculture from Kenya, started her seventh semester. She definitely wanted to study in a quieter, more liveable city instead of the capital, and since the University of Szeged is the best rural university in Hungary, she chose this institution. She chose the Faculty of Vásárhely at the beginning of her studies, primarily because of its proximity to Szeged. She added that she has not regretted her decision since then, as she was able to meet very nice people here.
Aisha Adan JALDESA was awarded the National Higher Education Scholarship because of her good academic results, her community work, her assistance at various events; her extracurricular activities: her participation in competitions and conferences; and also mentoring first-year students.
As she said, she studied at the Faculty with a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, but unfortunately this did not fully cover her expenses, so she regularly worked in addition to studying, for example picking and packing tomatoes in greenhouses, but she also worked as a laboratory assistant. Thanks to the National Higher Education Scholarship, she will have more time to study in the last semester.
“I am grateful for the scholarship, I feel that it is my duty to return all the good things that I have received from the Faculty community by getting good grades and studying hard,” said Aisha Adan JALDESA, graduate BSc Agricultural Engineering student.
“In Kenya, it is believed that working in agriculture is not a job for women. I would like to refute this, so that I will go home for at least a few months, and I will put the knowledge I have acquired in theory to practical use at home. After that, I definitely want to continue my studies and before I turn 30, I want to get a PhD degree in Europe or Canada as a scholarship holder, concluded Aisha Adan JALDESA.
This is not the first time that Afiqah Izzati Binti SUNDUSHIN, a BSc agricultural engineering student at the SZTE Faculty of Agriculture, has won the National Higher Education Scholarship, which is the award of her good academic average, her active participation in community life, and her successful participation in international conferences.
"Thanks to the scholarship, I don't have to work alongside my studies, I can focus, primarily on writing my thesis. I would also like to give back to the Faculty community, so I would like to help the first-year foreign students integrate," said Afiqah Izzati Binti SUNDUSHIN, a scholarship recipient of the NFÖ.
The young Malaysian girl has no tradition of agricultural activity in her family, but at the same time, during her studies, she realized that she has a good sense of management and realized that she wants to work in agricultural legislation in the future. Her long-term goal is to contribute to the development of a practice-oriented rule system in the field of agriculture.
Above all, however, she wants to continue her studies as a scholarship holder and obtain a PhD degree at the University of Reading in England.
We warmly congratulate the National Higher Education scholarship students.
