The 2025/2026 academic year began with a ceremonial council meeting at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged, which was held on September 8, 2025, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Mayor's Office in Hódmezővásárhely.
This academic year, 253 new students have begun their studies at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged. During the general admission procedure, 191 students were admitted to our faculty, while an additional 62 students were admitted during the supplementary admission procedure. Among those who were admitted, 20 international students had the opportunity to enroll, coming to study with us from China, Laos, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, Bangladesh, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt and Ghana. In addition to undergraduate programs, we also launched postgraduate programs in September this year, which further increased the number of students.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. habil. Levente Komarek, Vice Dean of Education at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged, presented the faculty's admission data.
"At our faculty, students can begin their higher education studies in the following fields: Agribusiness and Rural Development Management BSc, Agricultural Engineering BSc (in Hungarian and English language), Wildlife Management Engineering BSc, Agricultural and Business Digitalization BSc; and in higher vocational education: Stud Farming, Agricultural Assistant, Medicinal Plants and Herbs. Ninety percent of enrolled students are in undergraduate programs, while 10% are in higher education vocational training programs at our faculty. In addition to undergraduate programs, I am also pleased to report the successful launch of postgraduate programs. In the 2025/2026 academic year, the admission process was successfully completed for the Medicinal Plants and Herbs Production and Processing Engineer/Specialist and Plant Protection Engineer. Taking into account both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, we will welcome nearly 300 new students to the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged in September 2025. With the new students, the total number of students at the faculty now exceeds 900,” said Dr. habil. Levente Komarek.
After the Vice Dean of Education, Dr. habil. Edit Mikó, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Szeged, welcomed the new students.
"The university is more than just a school. It is a place where you not only acquire knowledge, but also develop independent thinking, responsibility, and build your future. You will not only learn, but also discover yourselves, find what you are really good at, and what you can contribute to the world. The university is a place of trust, because society trusts that with the knowledge you gain here, you will be able to do something not only for yourselves, but also for others. The agricultural career you have chosen is one of the most beautiful and noble professions. I would like to send you on your way at the beginning of your university years with the words of Winnie-the-Pooh. Winnie-the-Pooh was not the smartest in the Hundred Acre Wood, but he always excelled at something. He knew how to listen to his friends, he knew how to enjoy the little things, and he was never afraid to ask questions. There is nothing more important at university than daring to ask questions, seeking out company, and discovering that learning is not just about exams, but also about thinking together," said Dr. habil. Edit Mikó, Dean.
This was followed by the student oath, and then Dr. habil. Edit Mikó, Dean, welcomed the freshmen of the Faculty of Agriculture with a handshake.
In his welcoming speech, Mayor Dr. Péter Márki-Zay congratulated the first-year students on their successful admission and warmly recommended the sports and cultural leisure opportunities offered by Hódmezővásárhely to the students. He emphasized the easy accessibility and proximity of Szeged, which, with its colorful university life, offers young people further exciting entertainment opportunities, so that in addition to acquiring professional knowledge, they can also enrich their studies with lasting and memorable experiences.
At the ceremonial council meeting marking the start of the 2025/2026 academic year at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged, we welcomed colleagues who were celebrating their 40th and 25th anniversaries at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged. The faculty awards were presented by Dr. habil. Edit Mikó, Dean, to Dr. Kocsisné Dr. Gráff Myrtill, Dr. László Sallai, Zoltánné Antalicz, and Dr. István Majzinger.
Prof. Dr. Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, awarded National Higher Education Scholarships to two students of our faculty, Luyao Wang and Evelin Gieth, for their outstanding academic achievements and outstanding work in their professional fields.
On September 1, 2025, the Prime Minister of Hungary awarded the title of college professor to Dr. habil. Gábor Albert; On July 1, 2025, Dr. habil. Orsolya Szirmai was appointed associate professor at the university, while Dr. Annamária Korom, Dr. István Kristó, and Dr. Adrienn Szarvas were appointed associate professors at the faculty.
